Beginner Yoga Series: Ashtanga Primary

Each class is workshop style - moving at a slower pace with extra demonstration and time to learn correct alignment/pose modifications. This series is a great opportunity for beginners to learn foundational yoga postures and to prepare students for our weekly Ashtanga class.
We honor the practice by opening and closing each class with its traditional chant.
We will be breaking down the fundamentals of the Ashtanga Primary Series into four parts:
Week 1: Intro / Opening Invocation / Sun Salutations
Week 2: Standing Sequence
Week 3: Seated Sequence
Week 4: Closing Sequence / Inversions
The Ashtanga Primary Series is a sequence of postures developed by K. Pattabhi Jois, founder of Ashtanga and popularizer of the vinyasa style. It is a disciplined style of yoga where the breath is linked with movement. This is an energetic practice known to build heat and purify the body which is why the Primary Series is called yoga chikitsa aka "yoga for health."
